Accomplishing the last
wish made before turning adult
"I think not only as an athlete but also in life that we are facing different challenges every day, with a new identity and an unknown state.”
Su Yiming, the Olympic champion of the men’s big air in snowboarding at Beijing 2022 winter Olympics, is an incoming #NewTsinghuaRen this fall.
A former child film star, Yiming decided to focus fully on snowboarding five years ago. In 2022, at the age of 17, he became the first Chinese snowboarder to bring home the victory of an Olympic gold medal and then become a national sensation. Four days later, he celebrated his 18th birthday.
As Yiming posted on his social media, he has made three wishes before turning adult which include “participating in the Olympics, pocketing the gold medal, and receiving an offer from dream university”. The last one has now accomplished becoming the Class of 2027 TsinghuaRen.

Focusing on viable and
sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel
“Our world is grappling with a climate crisis that will only worsen if left ignored.”
Diego Rodríguez, an engaged new student from Spain, has just enrolled in the Department of Power and Energy Engineering, motivated to enact change by exploring viable and sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel.
Participating in a Model United Nations conference centering around the climate crisis, Diego realized the pivotal role of energy resources, which sparked his fascination with the field.
His strong interest in energy resources prompted him to launch a 3-month project to construct an environmentally friendly electric car using recyclable materials. This endeavor earned him recognition and secured him honors in multiple competitions.
As his university life unfolds, Diego hopes to reclaim his well-rounded nature and participate in various student organizations. Alongside, he hopes to forge friendships with like-minded TsinghuaRen who will ultimately work together to enliven society and inspire an unceasing world.
